Angmar is a large zone, with content spanning level 40 to 50. Add questing in Angmar to your level 40 to 50 leveling plan, along with Misty Mountains, Forochel and Eregion. Be sure not to miss Crannog's Challenge series in Aughaire at level 43 -- these quests are fairly easy and give good gear rewards.

Crossing the Dread Line

A feature of Angmar you need to be aware of is a line of watching stones collectively known as the "dread line". If you approach the dread line before completing Chapter 6 of Volume 1, Book 6 (aka 1.6.6) you WILL die (note the skeletons on the ground). Completing Book 6, Chapter 6 lets you pass to the eastern side of Angmar and access the content there. Even if you do no other part of the epic story, we recommend you complete Book 6. Angmar Instances

Questing in Gath Forthnir opens quest lines to the excellent level-50 Angmar instances of Carn Dum, Urugarth, Barad Gularan and The Rift. While you can get the dropped items for your level 50 class quest from skirmishes, consider running Carn Dum and Urugarth instead - it's great content.

Virtue Deeds in Angmar

Everyone will benefit from completing 30 quests in Angmar for one rank of Loyalty and 2 ranks for Empathy. Slayer deeds are available for Justice, Valour and Determination (all good traits), but the numbers needed are a staggering 450 kills each. Guess what? Later zones will be no easier. Group up to make the grind more fun, and it will go faster too.

Keep in mind that these are only a few of the virtues you can work on in this zone - specifically the ones you'll find useful for leveling and are relatively easy to get. You may want to return later to earn more. See Choosing Your Virtues for more information.

Legendary Deeds

Angmar is one of the zones where pages drop from humanoids for your initial Legendary Trait deeds. Be sure visit your class trainer at level 39 and buy the books that start the deeds. You'll need to visit Rivendell to advance the deed, but then any humanoids you kill in Angmar could drop one of the top four pages for one of your deeds.

The Epic Story in Angmar

Angmar is the setting for several books in Volume I, including Book 6, which gives good XP at level. Additional books (designed for level 50 players) are set in Angmar as well.

Crafting and Angmar

Angmar is an excellent zone to gather tier 4 ore - Dwarf-iron and Platinum - and, in the northeast part of the zone, tier 5 ore: Ancient-iron and Ancient-silver. Beasts in western Angmar drop Pristine hides, while cave-claws and wargs in the east (especially Maethad), drop Exceptional hides. Tier 4 scholar nodes (Forgotten Texts) are plentiful in Imlad Balchorth.
