Make LOTRO Gold with Legendary Items

Make LOTRO Gold with Legendary Items

Legendary Item farming is an opportunity best realized by LOTRO players at max level. Just by running the daily repeatable quests in Moria and Mirkwood, you can earn serious gold by selling dropped loot and items you can trade for.

The Demand

Finding the right legendary item (or the components to make one), leveling it, improving it with relics and scrolls can be a huge grind for players at max level. Many people make the grind manageable by buying some of the components and accessories they need from the Auction House. This means opportunity for those willing to collect and sell these items.

The Anatomy of a Legendary Item

The legendary item system has several components:
  • The actual legendary items (LIs), which can obtained in a variety of ways - barter, dropped loot or crafting. The vast majority of LIs in the game are not very desirable (because of their level, rarity or legacies) and will be deconstructed for relics, renewal scrolls and legendary fragments/shards. Desirable LIs must be equipped and leveled via IXP by the person who wants to use the item.
  • Legacies, the skills and stats the LI improves when equipped, can be improved, replaced or reset via tradeable scrolls.
  • Relics, additional stats added to special slots in the legendary item, can be dropped or crafted and are tradable.

Which Legendary Items are Desirable?

Level 65 Reforged Second Age LIs are by far the most rare and desirable LIs currently in the game. The component needed to craft them, Symbol of Celebrimbor, is also quite valuable. In addition to being an infrequent boss drop from Sammath Gul and Barad Guldur, this can now be obtained via barter from skirmish camps.

Also desirable are level 65 Third Age LIs with good legacies. Crafted third agers tend to be significantly better than that ones dropped by mobs or bought with skirmish marks, so save your skirmish marks for better stuff. In general, more legacies and higher tier legacies will sell for more. Ask a kinmate who plays the class if an LI is any good if you are uncertain. For the heap of level 61 to 65 Third Age LIs with poor legacies, you have 2 choices - sell them cheaply on the AH for decon or decon them yourself in hopes of getting Legendary Fragments and Scrolls of Renewal to sell on the AH.

Level 59/60 First Age class items are quite desirable for players leveling through this range, as they will be useful up to level 65.

Level 59/60 Second Age LIs are less expensive than 59/60 First Age LIs and also likely to be sought after by players leveling in this range if they have good legacies.

Legendary Item Scrolls

The market for Legendary Item scrolls can vary wildly from server to server. In general, the level 65 scrolls are worth more than the level 65 "Lesser" scrolls. Check the Auction House before bartering.
Scrolls of Empowerment raise the tier of one legacy on a level 65 (or lower) LI by one. These are highly desirable because higher tier legacies mean more points to spend. Beside quest rewards, the way to earn these is by bartering 1950 Skirmish Marks or 75 Medallions of Dol Guldur in Ost Galadh. Scrolls of Lesser Empowerment do the same for level 60 (or lower) LIs and can be obtained by bartering 816 skirmish marks or 75 Medallions of Lothlorien in Caras Galadhron (you must be Friend with the Galadhrim).

Scrolls of Delving add 10 IXP levels to a level 65 (or lower) LI. These are desired because more IXP levels on a legendary items means more points to spend. Beside quest rewards, these can be earned by bartering 10 Malledhrim Gold Star Emblems in Gathburz (you must be Kindred with the Malledhrim) or 50 Medallions of Dol Guldur in Ost Galadh. Scrolls of Lesser Delving do the same for level 60 (or lower) LIs and can be obtained by bartering 50 Medallions of Lothlorien in Caras Galadhron.

Legacy of Stat (Vitality, Agility, Might, Will and Fate) scrolls replace one legacy on a level 65 (or lower) LI with a tier 4 legacy of that stat. These are desired to replace poor legacies with something useful. Beside quest rewards, the way to get these is by bartering 25 Medallions of Dol Guldur in Ost Galadh. The Lesser version for level 60 (or lower) LIs an be obtained by bartering 24 Medallions of Moria in Twenty-First Hall.

Scrolls of Renewal scrolls reset the points on a level 65 (or lower) LI so they can be respent. Although it is possible to barter for these with skirmish marks, Medallions of Dol Guldur and Malledhrim Gold Star Emblems, most come from deconning level 65 or lower legendary items. Scrolls of Lesser Renewal do the same for level 60 (or lower) LIs. again, it is possible to barter for these with skirmish marks, Medallions of Moria and Medallions of Lothlorien, most come from deconning level 60 or lower legendary items.
